Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam Canto 1, Chapter 7
sūta uvāca dvaipāyanaḥ sakṛt kṛṣṇa- dāsyāṁ prāptāṁ mahā-matiḥ bhakti-yogam anuprāpya tad-eka-prāya eva ca
Synonyms sūtaḥ uvāca—Sūta Gosvāmī said; dvaipāyanaḥ—Vyāsadeva; sakṛt—once; kṛṣṇa-dāsyām—in the service of the Lord; prāptām—obtained; mahā-matiḥ—the great sage; bhakti-yogam—devotional service; anuprāpya—after achieving; tat-eka-prāya—almost solely; eva—certainly; ca—also.
Translation Sūta Gosvāmī said: Once, after the great sage Vyāsadeva had attained the service of the Lord through devotional service, he became almost exclusively engaged in that service.
bhakti-yogena manasi samyak praṇihite ’malam apaśyat puruṣaṁ pūrṇaṁ māyayā tv abhirakṣitam
Synonyms bhakti-yogena—by the process of devotional service; manasi—in the mind; samyak—perfectly; praṇihite—being placed; amalam—spotless; apaśyat—he saw; puruṣam—the Supreme Person; pūrṇam—complete; māyayā—by the illusory energy; tu—but; abhirakṣitam—protected.
Translation By perfectly engaging his mind in devotional service, he saw the Supreme Person, complete and full, who is always protected by His internal potency.
yadā bhakti-yogena manasi samabhāvayan bhagavān bhagavān eva tadā prādurabhūt svayam
Synonyms yadā—when; bhakti-yogena—by devotional service; manasi—in the mind; samabhāvayan—perfectly meditating; bhagavān—the Supreme Personality of Godhead; bhagavān—the Supreme Lord; eva—certainly; tadā—then; prādurabhūt—appeared; svayam—personally.
Translation When he perfectly meditated upon the Supreme Personality of Godhead through devotional service, the Lord Himself appeared before him.
bhagavān bhagavatā kṛṣṇaḥ kṛṣṇena bhagavatā saha dṛṣṭvā saṁsiddhiṁ āyāti bhakti-yogena bhāvitaḥ
Synonyms bhagavān—the Supreme Personality of Godhead; bhagavatā—by the Supreme Lord; kṛṣṇaḥ—Lord Kṛṣṇa; kṛṣṇena—by Kṛṣṇa; bhagavatā—the Supreme Personality of Godhead; saha—together; dṛṣṭvā—seeing; saṁsiddhim—perfection; āyāti—attains; bhakti-yogena—by devotional service; bhāvitaḥ—being developed.
Translation The Supreme Personality of Godhead, Kṛṣṇa, being pleased with the devotional service rendered by the great sage Vyāsadeva, personally appeared before him along with His plenary expansion.
